The derelict art deco hotel on Sanata Carolina Island in The Bazaruto Archipelago off Mozambique seen from the sea.

The derelict Art Deco hotel on Santa Carolina also known as Paradise Island seen from the sea. The hotel has been in ruins since the 1980's but was once the place to go for a honeymoon and to get married. Built in the early 1950's by Portuguese entrepreneur Joaquim Alves the luxury hotel was accessed by sea and by air having its own airstrip. The hotel's decline began during the Mozambique Civil War when it was used as a prison camp, after the war and with the death of Alves the hotel finally closed although there is some talk of it being resurrected.
