Canalsand railways followed, and as a necessary consequence whilst great materialprogress was made, many of the old time-honoured customs fell into disuseor were superseded: thus in 1835 the Court Leet ceased to hold itsmeetings, but the Guild continues to be celebrated with its accustomedsurroundings, although the passing of the Municipal Reform Act of 1835abolished many of its ancient trade Of the 1822 Guild, accounts were written by (with illustrations); of the 1842, a similar account was published by W.
