Corona Australis, Southern Crown Constellation
While perhaps not quite as well known as its star formation cousin of Orion, the Corona Australis region (containing, at its heart, the Coronet cluster) is one of the nearest and most active regions of ongoing star formation. Corona Australis was one of the 48 constellations listed by the 2nd century astronomer Ptolemy, and it remains one of the 88 modern constellations. The Spitzer image shows young stars plus diffuse emission from dust. Image taken with the Infrared Array Camera (IRAC).
