A split corridor in the derelict Severalls Psychiatric Hospital, Colchester, UK
A split corridor in Severalls Psychiatric Hospital. The hospital was opened in 1913 and could hold up to 2000 patients. Controversy surrounds the fact that psychiatrists could perform experimental treatments such as electro-compulsive therapy (ECT) and full frontal lobotomy. This continued up until the 1960's when social awareness of such treatments changed. The hospital finally closed in 1997 and has been lying derelict ever since.
