The Funeral of local vet Stephen Flood in Thaxted Essex UK. 10 March 2021. From Mercer and Hughes website: It is with great sadness that we announce our long-standing colleague Stephen Flood suddenly passed away on Monday 25th January 2021. Stephen had worked with Mercer and Hughes since 1991, when he joined us after a short time working for Kew Vets in Harlow, and two years working in Ireland following his graduation from University College Dublin in 1985. His prudent work ethic saw him become one of the partners, alongside Bob Mercer, Peter Hughes, and Ilse Pedler, now retired, and the two current directors Seamus Mone and Rebecca Kitchen. Stephen had a loyal following among our clients; his ‘Fan Club’ as we call it, who appreciated his straight-talking manner and obvious care for the animals he looked after. Pets in his care were always called ‘Pickle’ no matter what breed, shape or size! Those who have worked with Stephen, past and present, will remember him for always showing kindness and gratitude after a long day. He made a point of thanking each and every person when leaving theatre after an operation, or when leaving the surgery at the end of a clinic. His bear hugs were phenomenal, and his singing would resonate and brighten even the most stressful of days. And following the spectacular Christmas parties, most of us will never be able to listen to ‘Fairytale of New York’ in the same way again… A true Irishman of generous and gregarious character, he was a loyal rugby fan, dedicated parishioner, and keen collector of labradors. Stephen adored his family, who were his pride and joy. Our thoughts are with his wife Jane, his four children, as well as his surviving brother and sister, and extended family back in Ireland. A private family funeral is to be held on Wednesday 10th March 2021.
