The frame that supports them may be raisedmore or less, and may also be thrown out of engagement with the the locomotive advances, the disks revolve and their peripheralknives penetrate the earth and cut it into sKces the thickness of whichis capable of varying according to the velocity given the instrument andto the nature of the ground plowed. As may be seen, the colter disksare mounted on the back of the locomotive, and the inclination of thecolters as well as the rotation of the disks is in a contrary direction inorder to assure the pulverization, which is the real object of plow was exhibited at the Paris Exposition, where experimentswith it proved that it was capable of plowing six acres per day oftwelve hours.
