A seasonal relationwould seem to be clearly indicated. Syrphus arcuatus Fall^ October 7. The brightly colored syrphid flies feed in the adultstage upon pollen. The lerval food habits var;;:y greatly, but thelarva of this species probably lives upon plant-stems, feedingupon plant-lice. The specimens in the Havana series v;ere takenon flowers of aster, along a roadside; they are not restricted toaand 147 Spalanzanla sp, (undetermined). October 6. A gray Taohlnid taken on flov/ers of gUhnia. v/ith Pentatomids. The TacMnids are almost all parasite, particularly uponcaterpillars, Gonia frontosa Say. April 6 This tachinid was found at the bottom of a hollowbetween bunch-grass dunes. It had evidently just emerged from thepupa, for the wings and other parts had not hardened. The genusis parasitic upon cutworms, and probably other caterpillars. Phorbia fusciceps Zett. April 4. One specimen, from under a log with a large number ofother insects, in bunch-grass of advanced stage. Of the familyAnthomyidae, the larvae of vfhioh include scavengers, parasites,leaf-miners, and root-maggots. This species is a general feederin roots of common crops, according to Smith. In the naturalstate it probably feeds on grassroots, Scatophaga sp, (undetermined). April 1, 8, Common at the Devil»s Hole, flying about in the bunch-grass. The larvae of the Scatoph
