We also find here alarge quantity of plain wheel-made pottery, which looks quite modernwhen compared with that of the preceding city. Moreover, the mode oflife of the people to which this stratum belongs was entirely differentfrom that of their predecessors : instead of throwing all their kitchen-remains on the floor of their rooms, they carried them away and shotthem from the mound, since we but very rarely see in this stratum ofdebris the shells of oysters or mussels, which visitors may see in suchreally stupendous masses in the houses of the fourth city.
