The final and most satisfactory method and the one whichwas adopted was to place shortly after the concrete was inplace 8-in. x 8-in. iron bed plates, 5 ft. apart, on top of theconcrete beam and at the center of the span between the plates were placed x/i in. more or less below the bottomof the rail and were allowed to set in the concrete the concrete had finally set, a 2-in, x 4-in. x 5^-in. wedgewas driven between the top of each plate and the bottom ofthe rail and a moist mixture of one to one sand and cementwas rammed full width between the bottom of the rail and thetop of the beam, throughout its entire length.
