Oberhausen steelworks. Early 20th Century artwork of men at the steel forges in Oberhausen, Germany, using the Siemens-Martin process to make steel. This process involved using open-hearth furnaces. Most open-hearth furnaces were closed by the early 1990s and replaced by the basic oxygen furnace or electric arc furnace. Illustrated around 1930-40.
