Louis Daguerre (1787-1851), French chemist and inventor of the photographic process named after him (daguerrotype). Daguerre's patent was acquired by the French government in 1839. This bronze bust was erected in his birthplace of Cormeilles-en-Parisis, France, on 26 August 1883. The bust was by the French sculptor Charles-Romain Capellaro. It was placed on a pedestal in front of the house where Daguerre was born, with the location having been renamed Place Daguerre in his honour. Artwork from the seventh volume (first period of 1891) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree'.
