Raymond Vieussens (), French anatomist. This artwork is from his book 'Omnuim corporis humani nervorum' (1685). The Latin text at lower right states that it shows him aged 42, and some sources state that he was born in 1641. The rest of the text gives the Latin form of his name, and refers to Montpellier, the city where he studied and worked. Vieussens is remembered for important advances he made in studies of the heart, including the first accurate description of the left ventricle. This engraving is by Jean Boulanger.
