I Magnificat, Wesley; Nunc DimiUis, 8th Greg, (second ending).§Ps. xlviii. II, II — 29 450 PERSONAL [1847 days and years to come, by the gathering up, and the buildingup of many souls to Christ, and may the gifts they shall re-ceive by means of this Church ascend upwards in glory to Godwho prompted the work, and descend again in blessings on thevenerable head of him who did it. May his vigorous old agebe gladdened with the thoughts and with the fruits of it, andwhen he goes down to lay his head in the grave which he hasthere solemnly prepared for the wife of his bosom, and for allhis flesh and blood, may his deeds done for Gods honourfollow him ; as he passes into rest and felicity may theysurvive him and work after him and help to hasten thecoming of the Lord Jesus. To whom be glory for ever andever. Amen. W. E. 31, VIII. —ST. DEINIOLS LIBRARY In 1903 the following report was presented to thetrustees of the St. Deiniols Library by the Warden,Canon Joyce, I reprint it here as the best statementof the objects and possibilities of the foundation. The purpose of the institution was defined by the founderto be the promotion of Divine learning. I desire to pointout what is being done at present, and what I hope may bedone in the future to further that object. Taking into account the conditions of Church life at thepresent day, I believe that the chief object of our efforts atSt. Deiniols should be the encouragement of theologicalstudy among the parochial clergy. Each year there is a con-siderable output of theological writing, and a high degree oflearning is maintained by the distinguished theologians of theChurch. But it is commonly admitted that there is room forimprovement in lifting the general level of intellectual attain-ment.
