Editor: I am mailing you herewith, for publica-tion, a photograph of a recently patentedinvention, which is used in connectionwith draw or lift bridges, track scales andturntables, also a print showing the in-stallation of same on what is probablythe largest and most complete track scalein the South. Until recently an openjoint was used on the track, causing a. EASES JOINT FOR SCALES OR BRIDGES. severe pound on the scale as cars passedover, consequently decreasing the life ofthe scale. Following is a descriptinn ofthe Bohannan-Dugger Easer Joint. The ball of the approach and scale orthe bridge rails are planed off on the out-side even with the web, after which theeaser is bolted firmly to the approachrail, allowing Y% ins. clearance betweenthe side of the scale rail and the easerjoint, which gives ample room for move-ment of the scale. The easer being 3/16in. higher where the approach and scalerails meet, the car wheels are practicallylifted over the open space and allowedto land on the scale without any percept-ible jar or pound. The device is madeof manganese steel and will, therefore, wear indefinitely. Neal DvGGERt Scale Inspector,Tenn. Coal & Iron R. , Ala. The Traveling Fireman.
