The coloured cliffs , the result of ochre extraction, at the Colorado Provencal de Rustrel in the Luberon region of the South of France. Ochre has been quarried at this site since 1871 and closed in 1991. There are still some industrial remains for the visitor to see on the longer of the two recommended walks through the quarries. There is a visitor paring area and two well signed routes. It was called The Colorado after its similarity to some of the rock formations in the US state of Colorado.
