The feed lines are equippedwith balanced valves controlled by floats in the heaters. Asthe heaters fill, the valves are automatically closed, throw-ing pressure back upon the pump governors and cuttingdown the rate of water input from the pumps. Oil fromthe engines which passes through the turbines into the hotwell is separated from the water of condensation by gravityand discharged through an overflow into the river.
