Full-term foetus. Historical artwork of a full-term human foetus (9 months or 40 weeks old) in the uterus. The baby has turned and is in the birth position, with its head resting at the top of the birth canal. Babies usually assume this position from around the eighth month of pregnancy. This artwork is by Jan van Riemsdyck and was published in 1754 in A sett of anatomical tables with explanations, and an abridgement of the practice of midwifery by William Smellie (1697-1763).
