Some Time after, the Number of Houfes uponnew Foundations having greatly increafed in thisNeighbourhood, Francis, Earl of Bedford, aboutthe Year 1640, erecled a magnificent Chapel (nowthe Parifh Church) for the Convenience of hisnew Tenants in the Performance of their religiousDuties; with an Intent of fettling a Stipend ofone hundred Pounds per Annum, and a Houfe,towards the Maintenance and Habitation of a Mi-nifter, to officiate therein.
