Emile Erckmann (1822-1899) was a French writer. He wrote most of his works with the French writer Alexandre Chatrain. The two wrote under the pseudonym Erckmann-Chatrain. Erckmann is closely associated with the Alsace-Lorraine region in France and the heroes of the novels were often people from Alsace. Much of their works were related to military life.
