Standing stone, Wales. Standing stones (liths, or megaliths) are stones set vertically in the ground and come in many different varieties. Where they appear in groups together, often in a circular formation, they are often called megalithic monuments. Standing stones are found throughout the world and have no known or documented history, although most are thought to date from the stone age (Neolithic period). Photographed a few kilometres from the small village of Bethlehem, Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK.
