A local policeman and migrants walking along the railroad north of Mexico City, eye each other suspiciously.

After almost a year of simmering conflict the Juan Diego Migrant shelter in the Lecheria neighborhood north of Mexico City, was symbolically closed by neighbors complaining of drugs, crime and unsanitary conditions on their streets. The Catholic Church, which runs the sanctuary for economic refugees from Central America, near the railroad lines that go north to the US border, then officially closed it on Monday July 9, 2012, leaving the migrants with no option for food or shelter in the area. A state policeman drives by a group of Guatemalan men on their way to an area beside the tracks where they can rest and wait to hop a northbound freight train.
