Cmdr. The boat recently completed a 33-month Engineered Refueling Overhaul, which will extend the life of the submarine for another 20 years. Rhode Island is one of five ballistic-missile submarines stationed at the base and is capable of carrying up to 20 submarine-launched ballistic missiles with multiple warheads.
