Mr. Francis Bond mentions that the cen-taurs prey, the savage man or woodhouse,is represented together with lions round thepedestals of East Anglian fonts. On the pedestal of the fine fifteenth century 7^font of Saxmundham he is a hairy savagewith a club, and he stands next to a the top of this font are angels bearing thesymbols of the Passion, alternately with theevangehstic symbols, but no sign is to be seenof a centaur. 154.
