In addition there is a branch from the sub-way leading up to the approaches of the other high-level bridge, which serves the western suburbs. On theeastern side of the City Railway loop another linebranches off to the eastern suburbs, coming aboveground about V2 mile away. On the City Railway the stations provide for islandplatforms 520 ft. long. Bifurcation of track at theplatforms has been adopted to eliminate the effect ofthe station stop on track capacity, while congestion isavoided by separating the incoming and outgoing traf-fic as it moves from the platform to the street and viceversa.
