Village of Attu. Attu was one of two Aleutian islands captured by Japanese forces during WW II. A Weather Bureau observer, Charles Foster Jones, was shot and killed by the Japanese while his wife and 42 Aleut Americans were taken prisoners of war and taken to labour camps in Japan.
