Lawrence E. AIcGann, Chicagos comptroller and head of the departmentof finance, was bom in Galway, Ireland, February 2, 1852. His fatherhaving died in 1854, his mother, with her three-year-old boy, came to theUnited States and settled in Milford, Mass. Ten years later he came withhis mother to Chicago.
