1910 ornate border colourful postcard view Morecambe Tower rising above Tower Pavilion, Marine Road East, Morecambe, Lancashire
At the start of the 20th Century, Blackpool, Morecambe and New Brighton all had towers. Only Blackpool's survives. The 70 m (232 ft) high Morecambe Tower was built in 1898 and demolished at the start of World War 1, its steel being used in munitions. The Moorish-style Morecambe Tower Pavilion, in front of the tower, was opened as a theatre and ballroom in 1909. As the Gaumont Cinema, it closed in 1959 and was demolished in 1960. The site is currently occupied by the Gala Bingo Club. This 'New Era' Series card was published by Morecambe. The postmark is unreadable, but the card likely dates to around 1910.
