These water linesget the trade on both sides of the riverfrom thirty to fifty miles back, and, in-cluding Columbus, make connectionswith fifteen railroads at various pointsalong the river. A feature of interest in connectionwith steamboating is the fact thatthese boats are frequently crowded to. Cohmibiis. Ga.: Undeveloped Water-Powers above the City. a society of professional men, me-chanics and farmers, with their fami-lies, on a looo-acre tract twelve milesfrom Columbus. The present mem-bership of the colony amounts toabout 300, but it is expected that con-siderable accessions to this numberwill be made from time to time, as thissettlement is the outcome of a move-ment inaugurated by a society inChicago some time ago, and the mem-bership of the society includes repre-sentatives in nearly every State in theUnion. The place chosen for the set-tlement was selected bv a locating GEORGIA & ALABAMA RAILWAY AND ITS TERRITORY. 461 committee acting for the society, andhad in its membership one man fromOhio, one from Canada and one fromFlorida. A great deal of time wasspent in looking for a desirable place,and the people of Columbus and Mus-cogee county consider the selection asubstantial recognition of their advan-tages. While this is the only colony move-ment to this vicinity,
