Communications satellite construction. Eutelsat satellite under construction at the EADS (European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company) Astrium site in Toulouse, France. Eutelsat is the leading communications satellite operator in Europe and the third largest in the world. Its first communications satellite was launched in 1983, and it currently (as of 2009) operates 26 such satellites, covering two-thirds of the globe.
