Mayberry, a member of the firm of Mayberry & Hoover and an ex- president of the Florists' Club, is at the Georgetown hospital, where his big toe was amputated December 13. On the preceding day, with two compan- ions, he went into the woods of Upper Marlboro, Md., after rabbits. While walking along the edge of a gravel pit the ground beneath him gave way and, as he fell, one barrel of the gun was discharged, tearing off a portion of the large toe of the left foot. A surgeon dressed the wound, but the following day the amputation became necessary. Mr. Mayberry had but recently recov- ered from illness resulting from being knocked down and run over by an auto- mobile. There is some little talk of booming William F. Gude to fill one of the va- cancies in the board of commissioners of the District of Columbia, the highest honor that can be paid to any resident of this city.
