Auguste-Adolph Bertsch (1813-1870), French photographic inventor and experimenter. In the 1850's, in conjunction with the microscope designers and manufacturers Edmund Hartnack and Georges Oberhauser, he developed a solar microscope that produced enlarged images of entomological specimens onto either a reflective or rear projection screen. With his knowledge of photography and the wet collodion process he was able to produce photographic prints of these specimens. He is considered a pioneer of photomicrography. This microscope was able to create efficient bright field illumination because of the sun's parallel rays and the sub-stage optical condensing system, an extremely bright field was created in the plane of the specimen. To get images in colour by polarised light microscopy he positioned a polariser above a suitable specimen with the analyser beneath,
