Glenfinnan Viaduct Glenfinnan viaduct in the Highlands of Scotland. The 21 arched viaduct was built by Robert McAlpine between 1897 and 1901 famous for its appearances in films such as the Harry Potter films, overlooks Loch Shiel, the Jacobite Monument, and carries the single track West Highland Line over the River Finnan, Designed by Simpson & Wilson and Constructed by Robert McAlpine & Sons work was began in 1897and it was eventually officially opened in 1901. Constructed of mass concrete it has has 21 semicircular spans of 50 feet (15 m). It is the longest concrete railway bridge in Scotland (416 yards (380 m)). It crosses the River Finnan at a height of 100 feet (30 m). The viaduct is 18 feet ( m) wide between the parapets and is built on a curve of 792 feet (241 m). Not only is it famous for its rolls on celluloid it has also been commemorated on a Bank of Scotland £10 note (2007 series)
