THE CEMETERIES. It is impossible in a work of this kind to do justice to the many beautiful cemeteries inwhich repose the dead of the great city. We, can, however, direct the visitor to a few of themore prominent ones, and assure him that a visit to them will be a source of use the word advisedly, for few more pleasant spots can be found in the vicinity of Phila-delphia than its burial-places, fitted up as they are with equal taste and elegance. Laurel Hill Cemetery is confessedly the leading cemetery of Philadelphia in size, location,and beauty of adornment. It is situated on a sloping hillside bordering on the Schuylkill;the extensive grounds are skillfully laid out; and the monuments and other decoration
