Haviland.) overhead, and then dashing violently downwards, to glance aside when almost touching the ground, in a way that recalled the " leap and wince " of the Lapwing over Enghsh fields. Mr. A. Trevor-Battye {Icebound on Kolguev, p. 432) describes how this Plover attacked a marauding Skua in this way. When thus rushing to and fro, with its pied plumage and headlong vehement flight, the Grey Plover looks curiously like a pigeon.
