The importance of the knowledge gained through the skilfulperformance of external and internal pelvimetry cannot be over-estimated, and it should never be neglected in the case of awoman pregnant for the first time nor in any case in which thepatient has suffered previously from difficult or tedious labors. In cases of slight contraction the induction of labor two orthree weeks before term may be all that is necessary, while theexistence of marked deformity may call for the performance ofCsesarean section as the only alternative. It is to be kept inmind that the higher we ascend in the social scale the morefrequently do we encounter pelvic deformities of varying de-grees, due to faulty development superinduced by lives of luxuryand indolence, and that the class of patients coming under thecare of the graduate nurse presents a far greater proportion ofs
