It is no strange thing inreligion that men should be led by strong delusions, andearnestly believe lies, especially is this to be expectedwhen human tradition is held to have equal authority withthe Word of God. Our only safety is in holding fast torevealed truth as it is written in the Scriptures. The lawof the Lord is perfect, nor do we need any otherinfallibility than that which it furnishes, to guide us inthe way of pleasing tr. C c3 h e America is at heart a Christian country. As a religioussystem Protestantism is in hopeless dissolution, utterly value-less as a doctrinal or a moral power, and no longer to be con-sidered as a foe which we must count.
