Christiaan De Wet, Afrikaner soldier, politician and big game hunter, c1899. De Wet (1854-1922) addressing burghers near Ventersdorp Station, encouraging them to cross into the Cape Colony and get the rebels to rise against the British at the outset of the 2nd Boer War (1899-1902). De Wet was also active in the 1st Boer War (1880-1881).
