Icelandic horses and riders cross the Laxa River in North East corner of Iceland
The Icelandic horse, though only averaging , is still regarded as a horse, and retains it purity as a native breed by strict regulations on its movements. They have a unique gait, a running walk, called the tolt. Once a horse leaves Iceland, for instance, it is not allowed back in the country.
