Pythagoras ( – 500 BCE) was a Greek sage and mathematician. Though he wrote nothing and myth and legend surround his life, he is an extremely important figure in the development of mathematics and was introduced to mathematical ideas by the philosophers Thales and Animaxander, in astronomy he was influenced by the Babylonians. He founded a philosophical and religious mystical and secretive cult had an inner circle of followers known as mathematikoi taught by Pythagoras. It was dedicated to the study of the world of nature through numbers - “all things are numbersâ€Â\x9D and introduced the Pythagorean Theory of right-angled triangles, the mathematical relationship between notes on the musical scale, the concept of irrational numbers and the numerical relationships concerning the orbits of celestial bodies.
