Hairworm and wood cricket. Hairworm (Paragordius tricuspidatus) having exited its host wood cricket (Nemobius sylvestris). Hairworms are nematode worms that are intestinal parasites of a number of animals. This hairworm manipulates its host's behaviour, so that it jumps into water, allowing the worm to continue its life cycle. The cricket often drowns in the water.
