The 199th joined the Army of the James in October, 1865,on the James river, being assigned to the First Brigade, Twenty-fourth Corps, and under the direction of its veteran officers proceededto fortify, being at the extreme right. On March 27th the First Di-vision crossed the river and, advancing southward, captured by assault,six days later.
