Pantometer. 16th century engraving showing the design of a pantometer. This is used to determine the bearing and elevation to a given point. The base plate is turned to align with the object and the bearing read from a compass. A sighting bar is then raised to determine the elevation. This engraving was first published in The Navigator's Supply by William Barlowe, printed at London in 1597.
