Although the country which surrounds this group of mountains isdesert-like in the extreme, there is a narrow belt about the flanks andlower slopes that abounds in vegetation. Considerable forests of pinonpines occur about the canoned region to the east and south. Largegroups of these trees are also scattered at intervals over the greaterparts of the Sage Plain.
