While inFrance he was appointed master engineer, senior grade. His regiment, aspecial organization, was attached to the First Army. It was released fromthe First Army during the latter part of December, 1918. The regiment sailedfrom St. Nazaire on February 7, 1919, for the United States, and landed atHoboken March 20, 1919.
