ARABIAN GULF (May 12, 2017) Capt. John Schmidt, commanding officer of the guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), addresses the crew on the flight deck. Philippine Sea is deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations designed to reassure allies and partners, and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.
