Aerial view of the heart-shaped island of Tavarua, near Viti Levu, Republic of Fiji, South Pacific Islands, Pacific Disappearance of islands. Refugees due to climate change. The sea level rises year after year and many Pacific islands will disappear. The islands of the Pacific Ocean are seeing a large part of their territory in danger due to the incessant rise in the average level of the waters. The inhabitants of the archipelagos of Fiji, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Vanuatu and the Marshall Islands know this well. The latest studies calculate that, if the rise in the level of the Pacific Ocean continues at these levels, in the next 50 years these islands will have been engulfed by water. 20,000 years ago, the sea level was 120 meters lower than today, and in the last 5,000 years it has risen two meters, mainly due to the thermal expansion of the ocean and the melting of glaciers in the arctic areas, caused by the man action.
