Open star cluster NGC 7789, optical image. NGC 7789 (centre right) is referred to as an open cluster because its stars were all formed at the same time from the same gas cloud and are bound together by gravitational forces. NGC 7789 contains over 1000 stars and lies about 7500 light years from Earth, in the constellation Cassiopeia. This image was produced using the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, Mauna Kea, Hawaii, USA.
