newly restored main Synagogue which was destroyed by allied bombing in WW2 in the Oranienburger Strasse

Berlin 2009. Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall which I photographed in 1989 for the Independent Newspaper I returned to photograph the changes that have happened over the past 20 years. The newly restored main Synagogue which was destroyed by allied bombing in WW2 in the Oranienburger Strasse area of former east Berlin. The Television tower on Alexander platz is in the background. In 1989 the Synagogue was a burnt out ruin, I entered and picked up a piece of burnt timber from the floor which I still have. 2009
