Fish wheel on the Chena River; near Fairbanks, Alaska. The Chena River is a tributary of the Tanana River. The floating fish wheel catches fish swimming upstream or drifting in baskets that rotate along an axis powered by the current of the river. Fish slide out the side of the basket, when lifted, into a container mounted on the side.
