Mica fish are single crystals of mica, most often biotite, with an elongate, lozenge- or lens-like form, mostly as inclusions in micaceous-quartzitic mylonites and ultramylonites. Mylonites are metamorphic rocks, formed by intense recrystallization combined with ductile deformation, resulting in a fine grain size of the rock and a foliated texture. Mica fish often serve well as shear sense indicators.
